Emily is a mom to a cheeky but oh so lovable toddler – nicknamed Sunshine. Work takes up most of her time but she tries her very best to have just that little bit of quality time with little Sunshine every day, even if it means just 20 minutes. Their favorite activities to do together are painting, dancing like nobody’s watching, attempting to make a meal together, and coming up with new, unheard-of stories from books based on their own imagination.
Here are a selection of Emily’s favorite books from our Collection.
We have 2 versions of this book. The first, given as a gift, is now without ‘heads’. Rather odd considering the book title, you might say? Not so, if you realize how much a one-year-old loves ripping things in the name of ‘exploration’. Daddy, Mommy, and Sunshine love this book so much that we purchased another. A touch-and-feel book with bobbing animal heads encourage interaction – guaranteed to keep little Sunshine intrigued. Pleased to inform though, as of today - the heads are still intact in book #2.
Feminism is alive and kicking in planet Earth. It’s a cheeky book for cheeky little girls such as my little Sunshine. We think the illustration is absolutely adorable and what matters most is, it teaches both mommy and Sunshine that what’s most important is to be true to oneself and to reach for your dreams – as long as you’re willing to put your heart and soul into it. A disclaimer needs to be put in place though: not for the faint-hearted – messy meal times and slightly non-ladylike moves are possible.
Love it or hate it, Babar the Elephant is a true classic. I grew up watching the TV series, hence, I most definitely wanted to enjoy this books with little Sunshine. Best of all, it has 5 stories! With its charming illustration and some might say, a little less heart-pumping storylines, I think this book allows for much exploration through our very own interpretation, as Sunshine and I join Babar on his adventures.
This book is little Sunshine’s current favorite bedtime ‘read’ (mind you, it’s one of the longest on the list of favourite bedtime books so far). Works a little different from the standard bedtime story book. This is a pop-up book that requires a torchlight! Helps with the bedtime routine, as we’ll first need to search for a squid, badger, snake, bird, bat, and so on before finally agreeing to a last animal to search for in our lil’ adventure. With the lights already switched off, off to bed we go after goodnight hugs and kisses.
Too funny! This book is guaranteed to come with a whole lot of laughter and tickles. What I love about it is that I’m able to teach my daughter daily routines, life lessons, and events to respect my space (ie: client time) in a light-hearted and fun manner. I use this book as a conversation starter and link this to our everyday lives. Sure winner in my list!
